About the ABAI Program

The Aboriginal Business Advisory Initiative (ABAI) program supports Aboriginal owned businesses to get started and build capacity through greater connectivity to NSW Government Procurement, supporting
business start-up, encouraging business expansion and providing access to training and job creation.
The ABAI program is staffed by Aboriginal people who have experience in small business operations and management and who work closely with local industry and business development agencies.
- Our ABAI Manager, Craig Layer, has been in this role for over ten years and has developed an extensive network and a detailed understanding of Indigenous businesses both locally and across the state. Craig can assist you with:
- Starting up a small business
- Building capacity
- Connecting with potential business customers (larger businesses that may want your products and services)
- Connecting you with relevant services to help grow your business
- Doing a health check on your existing business
- Researching and developing a business plan
- Arranging accredited small business training
- Providing information on governance and management
- Providing ongoing mentoring and support once your business is up and running
- Helping to grow your business when you are at a crossroad
- Providing information on how and where to apply for funding
- Advising on procurement within industries and companies to increase Indigenous business participation
- Providing Indigenous engagement and cultural awareness training
